The Formula For A Healthy, Long, Abundant Life

Did you know that the best way to lose weight is to practice a healthy lifestyle? It is true when we give our bodies what they need to be healthy our bodies will regulate themselves and the weight problem will literally take care of itself. Read on to discover what I mean.

We all want to be healthier and live longer lives; after all who wants to be sick or spend our last years unable to enjoy life? Having a fit and healthy life is all about balance. Balancing out activities with proper rest and nutrition will allow us to live the healthier and fit lives that we desire. Add to that formula that we should receive proper amounts of sleep each and every night and you have a winning balance of all the elements that a body needs to live longer, be at the proper weight and have a healthier life.

Did you know that if you apply this principal of balancing all your body's needs you can be fit and healthy even when you are considered to be "elderly?”  Most people have the misconception that the elderly naturally are ill, have decreased mobility and are unproductive. Those notions simply are not true in a world where medical and healthcare knowledge has expanded regarding what our bodies truly need to be healthy. When we are healthier our weight is better proportionately to our height, we can avoid certain diseases and even lessen the chance for injuries that can sideline us and prevent us from living life to the fullest. When a person lives a life of regular exercise not only will their weight be managed properly but also they will have the muscular strength and agility to stay active later in life.

To be healthy we need a balance of good nutrition, proper water intake, and adequate amounts of sleep and daily exercise. The combination of all of these elements in our lives is what gives us the healthy balance that equates to long life and healthy living.

Another element that we haven't discussed yet that plays a major role in living a long healthy life is the avoidance or better management of stress. We all encounter stress in our lives; some of us are thrown into more stressful situations than others. We all must learn how to handle the stressful situations in order to be able to be healthy mentally and emotionally. Stress can also have an impact on our physical body. Long-term stress has been studied along with the connection between stress and diseases. Stress can lead to obesity, heart attack, stroke, asthma, gastric disorders, menstrual dysfunction, ulcerative colitis, chest pain (angina), irritable colon, high blood pressure, ulcers, yes - headaches. You can experience mental stress or emotional stress. You body can even experience physical stress. Studies show that emotional stress takes a greater toll on the body than the other types of stress.

A lifestyle that allows your body to experience a balance between restful sleep, healthy eating, drinking plenty of water, and daily activity is one that promotes a healthy, long, abundant life.

Feature Recipe

Lip-Smacking Leftovers

Here are two great recipes that you can make from your Thanksgiving Leftovers that are simply delicious.

Turkey or Chicken Corn Bread Casserole

4 cups crumbled corn bread or leftover dressing
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/4 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 tsp poultry seasoning
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 1/2 cups cooked, coarsely chopped turkey or chicken
1 cup "uncanned" condensed soup (see below)
3 cups turkey or chicken broth

Combine corn bread crumbs or dressing with next 5 ingredients. Place half of corn bread mixture in 2-quart baking dish. Spread chopped turkey or chicken on top. Combine soup and broth. Pour over chicken. Place remaining corn bread mixture over soup and broth. Press down lightly and set aside for 20 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.

Basic Uncanned Condensed Soup

You can use 1 cup of this mixture as a healthy replacement for Traditional Canned Cream Soups.

3 tbs butter or ghee**
3 tbs whole wheat flour or flour substitute
1/4 tsp salt
dash  pepper
1 1/4 cups liquid (stock, rice or almond milk, or Mimmicreme)

Melt butter in saucepan.  Stir in flour and seasonings.  Cook over medium heat until bubbly.  Add liquid slowly, stirring with wire whisk to prevent lumps.  Cook until thick.

Easy Turkey or Chicken Pot Pie

Leftover Turkey or Chicken, chopped in to bite size pcs. - about 2-3 cups
Leftover Veggies, any combination - about 2-3 cups
2 cups of Basic Uncanned Condensed Soup
1/2 - 1 cup broth
Salt & Pepper to taste
Poultry Seasoning, optional

Topping:
1- 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1  stick butter, melted or 1/2 cup of ghee**
1 tsp baking powder
2 cups rice milk or Mimmicreme
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Cut cooked turkey or chicken into small chunks and place in a 9x13 or larger baking dish. Top with cooked leftover veggies: cauliflower, corn, green beans, butternut squash, peas, etc. Mix 1/2 cup of broth with 2 cups soup. If it seems to thick use up to 1/2 cup more broth. Pour broth and soup mixture over the top. If your veggies didn't have a good bit of seasoning on them already, you may wish to add a dash or two of poultry season. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Topping:

Combine dry ingredients. Stir in milk and butter. Pour and gently spread topping over meat mixture.
Place dish on cookie sheet to prevent from spilling over into oven. Bake in preheated 350° oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until topping is done and golden brown.
